Sapphire
Blue; sought-after black crinkle dashboard; comes with both a soft top and
tonneau cover, together with its original factory hard top, providing plenty of
flexibility for year-round use
This
attractive 1971 Triumph Spitfire MkIV is finished in the particularly desirable
Sapphire Blue and presents as a smart, usable example of Triumph's much-loved
small sports car. The car starts, runs and drives as expected, with the brakes
and gearbox functioning as they should.
Inside,
it retains the original and highly sought-after black crinkle dashboard, while
the interior was renewed in 2021 with handmade vinyl seat covers, new seat foams
and straps and new carpets. Inertia-reel three-point seatbelts have also been
fitted, while electronic ignition has been added for improved
reliability.
The car comes with both a soft top
and tonneau cover, together with its original factory hard top, providing plenty
of flexibility for year-round use.
Further work
includes a new laminated windscreen and the wheels being professionally powder
coated in Millennium Silver in 2021, using stainless steel particles for added
durability and sparkle, with acid-etch primer and Epozinc coating applied for
additional protection.
Not presented as a
concours example, the Spitfire does have some minor finishing touches for its
next owner, including light surface corrosion around the windscreen area.
Overall, however, it is a characterful and appealing example that combines its
desirable original features with a number of sensible
upgrades.
A great little British sports car,
equally suited to weekend enjoyment, local events and classic car shows, and
ready to be further improved and enjoyed by its next
custodian.
