Description
Austin-Healey 100/4 replica; Ford 2.1 Pinto engine; very low mileage;
very smart; runs nicely; advisory-free MOT
Based in
Glasgow, Haldane Developments began making well-engineered replicas of the
Healey 3000 and 100/4 in the mid-1980s using a bespoke ladder-frame steel
chassis that closely mirrored the dimensions and stance of the original
Austin-Healey. The bodywork was crafted from high-quality fibreglass moulded
directly from original cars to capture every classic curve, chrome detail, and
sweeping feature line.
Most models featured
mechanical running gear from Ford (such as Sierra, Cortina, or Capri
components) with Triumph suspension. Engine configurations varied widely
depending on the builder, ranging from Ford Pinto and 2.0L DOHC engines to
high-performance Rover V8 and Ford V6 units.
First registered in August 2008, this Haldane HD100 Austin-Healey
100/4 replica has the Ford 2.1-litre Pinto engine but other than that we can’t
tell you much about it. Our vendor took the car in part-exchange from a lady who
had owned it since March 2023 and her name is still on the V5C which records
four former keepers (see photos).
Although it
comes with a large file of estimates, invoices, correspondence and technical
literature, this is all quite hard to follow and it is difficult to know exactly
which parts were fitted to the car and which never got past the estimate stage.
For instance, it looks likely to have a Vulcan
alloy rocker cover, Stage 1 head, Kent cam and five-speed gearbox but we aren’t
entirely sure so you will need to come and see it for
yourselves.
The MOT history implies that the 574
miles on the clock may even be genuine, presuming the odometer has been working
correctly, as it has only been tested in 2012, 2017, 2018 and 2024, presumably
spending the rest of the time in storage. The last MOT was issued in October
2024 with no advisories and it has only covered 77 miles since
then.
As you can see in the photos, it looks to
be in very good condition and has been starting promptly and running well as we
have moved it around on site, with a lively turn of speed, nice light steering
and a sporty soundtrack from the stainless steel exhaust. It looks like a lot of
fun at the modest guide price suggested.
