Comes from long-term
ownership; dry stored and was the subject of a comprehensive restoration
programme some years ago, although the project was never quite completed
Produced during the post-war boom in affordable British
motorcycling, the Sun Challenger Deluxe was a practical and well-built
lightweight machine, typically powered by a reliable Villiers two-stroke engine.
Built to provide economical everyday transport, these handsome motorcycles have
become increasingly uncommon today, particularly as many were worked hard during
their early lives and relatively few survive in restored or largely complete
condition.
This 1952 example comes from long-term ownership and is
offered for sale due to the advancing age and health of its owner. The machine
has been dry stored and was the subject of a comprehensive restoration programme
some years ago, although the project was never quite
completed.
Considerable expenditure and effort have clearly been
invested. The motorcycle was stripped and repainted, while the engine and
gearbox were professionally rebuilt by the renowned Villiers Services Ltd.
Significantly, the vendor advises that the rebuilt engine has never been started
since the work was completed. The machine is further equipped with
stainless-steel rims and spokes, new tyres, new levers, controls and handlebars,
together with a new saddle and springs. Also included in the sale is a new
exhaust system which has yet to be fitted.
Although largely rebuilt, the
machine will require finishing and recommissioning before returning to the road,
presenting an attractive opportunity for an enthusiast to complete a
straightforward and worthwhile project. The paperwork includes an old style log book, photographs,
correspondence and invoices.
Unfortunately, the original registration
number could not be traced during the restoration process and, as such, the
successful purchaser will need to apply for an age-related registration through
the appropriate channels.
An appealing and increasingly rare British
lightweight motorcycle that has already benefited from extensive restoration
work and professional mechanical rebuilding, offering its next custodian the
opportunity to complete the final stages and return this charming Sun Challenger
Deluxe.
