Few sports cars have enjoyed the enduring popularity of
the MGB Roadster. Combining handsome styling, simple mechanicals and an engaging
driving experience, it remains one of the most accessible and usable British
classics, with an enthusiastic following and excellent parts support ensuring
its continued appeal.
First registered in April 1972, this rather
splendid MGB Roadster has benefited from a comprehensive rebuild based around a
new British Motor Heritage bodyshell supplied by MG Hive in February 2002.
Finished in elegant Old English White, the rebuild incorporated a substantial
quantity of new components including five new 16-inch chrome wire wheels and a
complete six-piece chrome bumper set.
The extent of the work carried out
is extensive and far beyond what can reasonably be detailed here but is
comprehensively documented within a large history file containing invoices and
photographs. Among the major works undertaken were an engine rebuild,
carburettor overhaul and extensive suspension refurbishment, together with a
number of carefully considered upgrades designed to improve both handling and
usability. Power steering has also been fitted, making the car particularly easy
to enjoy at modern road speeds and during low-speed manoeuvring.
The
interior has received similar attention and presents beautifully. Most notable
are the attractive green leather seats, which offer both comfort and style while
providing a pleasing contrast to the exterior paintwork. Further enhancements
include white-faced instruments, a walnut centre console and matching door
cappings, electric windows, a modern radio/CD player, a quality mohair hood and
a wind deflector. The desirable overdrive gearbox is also fitted, enhancing
touring ability and relaxed cruising.
Following completion of the
rebuild, the car returned to the road in 2007 with the odometer reset to zero.
Since then, it is understood to have covered only some 6,047 miles, explaining
its remarkably fresh appearance.
The accompanying history file is
particularly impressive and includes the V5C, old-style logbook, owner's
handbook, wiring diagrams, numerous invoices relating to the rebuild and
subsequent maintenance, together with some 22 previous MOT certificates dating
back to 1988. Now MOT exempt, the most recent MOT expired in July 2022 with no
advisories recorded and the car has covered fewer than 500 miles
since.
As the photographs illustrate, this MGB presents in superb
condition throughout and is a credit to the care, attention and investment
lavished upon it over the years. With its Heritage bodyshell, extensive
restoration, thoughtful upgrades and attractive specification, it represents a
wonderful opportunity to acquire a beautifully sorted MGB that is ready to be
enjoyed immediately by its next owner.
