Walter de Silva designed Twin Spark
Sportwagon; with vendor for 21 years; sold with no reserve; showing 113,099
miles; sold with no reserve
Finished in classic estate form, this 2001 Alfa
Romeo 156 1.8 Twin Spark Sportwagon is showing 113,099 miles and is fitted with
the desirable manual gearbox. The MOT is valid until July 2026, and the car has
been in the hands of the current vendor since 2005, during which time it has
reportedly been serviced annually. The vendor also advises that the cambelt was
changed at around 70,000 miles, although no paperwork is available to confirm
this. Used daily and driven to the sale, it presents as a running, usable
example of Alfa’s stylish early-2000s estate.
Introduced at the 1997 Frankfurt
Motor Show, the Alfa Romeo 156 (Type 932) replaced the 155 and quickly became
one of the brand’s most celebrated modern designs, going on to win the 1998
European Car of the Year award. Designed by Walter de Silva, the 156 combined
sharp handling with a distinctive, elegant silhouette and was offered in both
saloon and Sportwagon estate forms. Production took place at Alfa Romeo’s
Pomigliano d’Arco plant in Italy.
A long-owned, regularly-used example of the increasingly
appreciated 156 Sportwagon, ready for continued use or sympathetic
improvement.
