This 1993 Porsche
968 Coupe is a rare and increasingly appreciated modern classic representing the
final evolution of Porsche’s front-engined, transaxle sports car lineage.
Finished in Amazon Green Metallic (often appearing with a subtle blue hue
depending on light), this example presents as a well-used but mechanically
well-supported driver’s car with extensive history and notable recent
expenditure.
Powered by the 3.0-litre inline
four-cylinder engine producing approximately 237 hp, paired with the desirable
6-speed manual transmission, the 968 delivers a balanced and engaging
rear-wheel-drive experience. The drivetrain feels smooth and responsive, with
strong pull through the rev range and a satisfying mechanical shift quality that
rewards spirited driving.
This example has
covered 151,624 miles and has been maintained with considerable documentation.
It has had 7 former keepers and comes with a comprehensive history file
including 29 service stamps, 23 old MOT certificates, a large collection of
invoices, original handbook, two keys, and supporting paperwork detailing work
carried out over the years. The last documented cambelt change was carried out
at 148,391 miles.
£2,500 spent in early 2025
addressing MOT-related repairs including welding. ABS work has recently been
carried out, however the warning light has since reappeared and will require
further attention.
Externally, the car presents
with age-related scrapes and scratches consistent with its mileage and usage.
The 16-inch Cup alloy wheels are fitted but would benefit from refurbishment,
and are currently wearing Landsail tyres dated 2020 with approximately 6.5mm
tread remaining across all four corners. All lighting units are reported to be
in working order, including the distinctive pop-up
headlamps.
The interior is finished in classic
grey partial leather with distinctive “Z-order” Sherwood green leather piping on
the front seats. The driver’s seat shows noticeable bolster wear, while the
passenger seat and rear seats remain in better condition. Pale carpets show
visible staining consistent with age and use. Electrically adjustable front
seats are fitted, with full adjustment functioning on the driver’s side and
partial operation on the passenger side.
Equipment includes a working electric tilt-and-slide sunroof with
removable panel, electric tailgate release (currently operational), rear wiper,
and aftermarket Kenwood CD head unit. The original spare wheel, Porsche
compressor, jack, tool roll, and a Porsche battery charger are also
included.
Mechanically, the car starts, drives,
and stops as expected. On-site inspection confirmed normal operation during
photography and a short test drive, with no immediate drivability concerns
noted.
This Porsche 968 is best described as a
well-documented, usable classic that would benefit from cosmetic refinement and
ongoing enthusiast care. It offers strong mechanical integrity, excellent
provenance, and the analogue driving character that continues to make the 968 a
sought-after modern classic.
