1948 Ford Prefect E93A Saloon
Rare E93A model;
possibly better than when it was released from the factory and likely to be the
smartest you have seen; recently starred in the not yet released feature film,
'The Reverend and Mrs Simpson'
One of the
early E93A Prefects is offered here with the distinctive headlights shown on top
of the wings rather than inside them. The previous owner has also completed a
magnificent restoration that quite frankly makes this saloon one of the best
examples of its kind.

Originally
registered in December 1948, little is known of its early life unfortunately,
but the paperwork certainly records very few owners between the late 1970s and
today. Photographs on file show the car before any restoration was started and
we believe this would have been c.2001, when the previous keeper acquired the
car.

Many hours and
many pounds were spent on this car in the following years. A comprehensive and
fine quality restoration by someone who obviously knew what he was doing
commenced and by the look of the bills on file, continued until at least 2016.
The first recorded drive in the handwritten log was in fact in 2015 after the
engine rebuild. Some would argue it is now better than when Ford built it but to
most, this is probably a good thing!

Apart from the
engine re-build, it is fairly clear from the photographs what else has been done
to the car but as a summary the work included new running boards, new front and
inner wings, new roof covering, re-chromed bumpers and of course a professional
(no doubt very expensive…) respray. The interior looks incredibly tidy too,
having been kept smart for the few weddings that it has been used for recently.
All carpets were replaced and made to fit, the rear window blind replaced and a
very respectable second hand dashboard fitted behind the restored steering
wheel.

There is a
handwritten log accompanying the car which has been kept up to date from 2015
until the owner drove it to Brightwells for this auction. Amongst the entries in
the log are at least three weddings, various little jollies across Herefordshire
and beyond, the NEC, a few oil changes, a number of Ford Sidevalve Owners’ Club
meetings and the Witley Court Show, where UML 206 picked up first prize.
Featuring at various other shows over the last few years, the Prefect was
recognised as the magnificent vehicle that it is and was invited to appear in
the upcoming feature film, ‘The Reverend and Mrs Simpson.’

Quite possibly
the best E93A Prefect you will see for some time so not an opportunity to miss
and at this estimate, looks very inviting so place your bids
early.
