The Mercedes-Benz SLK was one
of the defining roadsters of its era, combining compact proportions, genuine
sporting ability and Mercedes-Benz luxury with its innovative folding metal
vario-roof. Today, early R170 models are increasingly recognised as appealing
and affordable modern classics.
This 1999 SLK 230
Kompressor is finished in Burgundy Metallic with a Cream and Black leather
interior. Powered by the 2,295cc supercharged engine and five-speed automatic
transmission, it was first registered in June 1999 and has had five former
keepers. It has been in the current ownership for more than 13 years, since
January 2013.
The odometer currently displays
90,283 miles and the car is offered with an MOT valid until May 2027. The vendor
drove the SLK to the auction and reports that it starts, runs, drives and stops
as expected, as demonstrated while on site for photography and
filming.
Prospective bidders should note that the
vehicle was subject to a Category D insurance claim in June 2011. The
electrically operated folding roof also does not currently appear to operate and
will require investigation by the new owner.
With
its supercharged engine, automatic transmission, distinctive styling and
long-term current ownership, this SLK represents an interesting opportunity to
acquire an increasingly collectible Mercedes-Benz roadster and recommission it
for enjoyable open-top motoring.
