Three owners from new; the current for 29 years; just recommissioned
following a period in storage; advisory-free MOT; renowned 80's Mercedes build
quality
The Mercedes-Benz 300 SE epitomises the
understated luxury and engineering excellence for which the marque became
renowned during the 1980s. Combining refined straight-six performance with
exceptional build quality, effortless long-distance comfort and timeless
styling, the flagship S-Class was designed to cover vast mileages with ease.
Today, well-preserved examples are becoming
increasingly difficult to find, offering enthusiasts the opportunity to own one
of Mercedes-Benz's most accomplished luxury saloons from a golden era of the
brand.
Manufactured in 1988, this particular 300
SE has only had a mere three owners from new, the last having cherished the car
for a staggering 29 years. Having originally acquired the car at 63,000 miles in
1997 from Mercedes specialist John Griffiths in Reading with full main dealer
service history, our vendor used the car regularly up until 2004 where it was
stored securely in an indoors garage.
In August
2022 the car was resurrected after a joint inspection from a motoring journalist
and Mercedes employee and car collector who urged him the car must be saved.
Fast forward to present day, the car is in full road worthy and simply lovely
condition with a 12-month MOT with no advisories.
Accompanying the car is the original owner’s manual and no less than
two maintenance and service booklets containing a whopping 23 service stamps
from 13,112 all the way to 145,415 miles. 12 from Mercedes themselves and the
other 11 all Mercedes specialists. A simply unrepeatable maintenance record and
a clear sign of fastidious maintenance and upkeep.
More recently, prior to being offered for sale, the car was
recommissioned with a full service. As part of this work, the old fuel was
drained, a new fuel pump and battery were fitted, and all fluids and filters
were replaced, with invoices on file totalling nearly £800.
Starting and driving on site exactly as one would expect from a
Mercedes-Benz of this era, this 300 SE represents a rare opportunity to acquire
a remarkably original flagship saloon. With just three owners from new, nearly
three decades of long-term ownership and an exceptional, fully documented
maintenance history, it presents as an incredibly collectable and desirable
example of the breed.
