Launched in 1968, the XJ combined handsome styling, outstanding ride quality and
impressive refinement, quickly establishing itself as one of the finest luxury
saloons of its generation. Today, early Series 1 cars are increasingly
appreciated for their elegant looks and purity of design.
First
registered in September 1969, this Jaguar XJ6 is powered by the 2,792cc
six-cylinder engine coupled to an automatic gearbox. Finished in dark green with
a contrasting tan interior, it remains an attractive and quintessentially
British colour combination that suits the car's distinguished character
perfectly.
The speedometer currently displays 31,797 miles, although as
with any vehicle of this age, the mileage cannot be warranted. The interior
appears complete and retains much of the ambience that made these early XJs such
desirable executive cars when new.
The vendor advises that the Jaguar has
been laid up for approximately seven years and, as can clearly be seen from the
photographs, it should be regarded as a restoration project. As such,
prospective purchasers should expect a degree of recommissioning and restoration
work before any return to regular road use.
Nevertheless, early Series 1
XJ6s are becoming increasingly difficult to find and this example presents an
opportunity for an enthusiast to restore a significant Jaguar model to its
former glory. With its attractive colour combination, six-cylinder power and
elegant Series 1 styling, it offers a rewarding project and the chance to
preserve an important piece of Jaguar history.
