Very smart TR3A; Matching numbers with heritage certficate; subject to
a thorough restoration in the late 90's; stacks of invoices and smart usable
upgrades
The Triumph TR3A is widely regarded as one
of the definitive British sports cars of the 1950s, combining rugged mechanical
simplicity with lively performance and unmistakable period charm. Introduced as
an updated version of the successful TR3, the TR3A brought a wider front grille,
improved weather equipment and numerous detail refinements, while retaining the
model’s spirited driving character.
This rather
smart example was manufactured in October 1958 and sold new through California
Sales Inc. of Los Angeles. Originally specified in Pearl White with matching
white hood over a black interior, factory equipment included disc wheels, a
tonneau cover and the desirable optional heater.
Repatriated in 1991, the car has since been the subject of thorough
restoration and improvement work, including a repaint in British Racing Green
and conversion to right-hand drive in the mid to late nineties. Accompanying the
car is a heritage certificate and two large history folders containing a
substantial quantity of invoices covering parts and maintenance too extensive to
list individually, including wire wheels, hubs, seals and clutch components to
name but a few.
More recent maintenance over the
last ten years includes a new clutch master cylinder, universal joints, oil
filter and radiator hoses, while sensible upgrades include an alternator
conversion, Kenlowe cooling fan, battery cut-off switch and a tubular exhaust
manifold.
The car itself presents in very smart
condition throughout, the British Racing Green paintwork retaining a good depth
of shine with only a handful of very minor imperfections, all of which are
pictured, and no notable dents or large scratches apparent. The contrasting red
leather interior also presents well and complements the exterior colour scheme
nicely, with no significant rips or tears to report. The weather equipment
appears in similarly good order, while the polished wire wheels further enhance
the car’s appearance and are shod with matching Sprint Classic tyres all
round.
Only for sale due to lack of use, this
charming Triumph TR3A has been starting and driving readily on site with no
faults reported and appears ready to be enjoyed throughout the summer months
ahead.
In summary, this presents as a very smart
and usable Triumph TR3A in a particularly desirable specification, benefitting
from clear documented history and provenance. Accompanied by two large folders
of invoices and photographs detailing work completed over the years, and with a
number of sensible upgrades, this Triumph appears a smart buy, particularly at
the keen guide price.
