Seemingly original factory right-hand drive Beetle; showing only
27,237 miles; original paintwork with 'cal' style patina; highly characterful
use and improve example
The instantly recognisable
VW Beetle remains one of the most iconic and beloved classic cars ever produced,
with 1960s examples particularly sought-after for their charming styling, simple
air-cooled engineering and wonderfully usable nature.
Combining cheerful character with impressive reliability and
excellent parts availability, the Beetle has long been a favourite among
enthusiasts thanks to its ease of ownership and unmistakable period
appeal.
Offered from a small private collection,
this particularly characterful Beetle was manufactured in 1966 and represents an
increasingly uncommon factory right-hand drive example, appearing to remain in
largely original condition throughout.
Furthermore, being a 1966 model, the car is also fitted with the
larger 1,285cc engine, giving a useful extra ten horsepower over earlier
examples. This makes later cars particularly sought-after for their improved
usability whilst retaining the model’s classic charm.
Presented in what appears to be largely original paint, the car is
believed to be finished in the iconic Savanna Beige, a particularly desirable
colour scheme amongst Volkswagen enthusiasts. As illustrated in the accompanying
photographs, the car wears its age proudly with characterful patina along with
the odd age-related mark and blemish, all of which only seem to add to the
Beetle’s charm. The bonnet has, in typical Beetle fashion, succumbed to some
corrosion over the years, although a replacement repair panel is included within
the sale.
The interior remains in similarly
original condition throughout and pleasingly retains an authentic period radio.
The driver’s seat shows some wear commensurate with age and use, although
replacement seat covers remain readily available should the next owner wish to
improve matters.
Only for sale due to lack of
use, the car has seen little action over the past six months, although it has
been running and driving on site. As with any older vehicle emerging from
storage, it would likely benefit from routine servicing and tuning to bring it
back to its best.
In summary, this little
Volkswagen Beetle represents a highly characterful and seemingly original
example of the model in both a desirable year and colour scheme, equally suited
to be enjoyed as-is or taken to the next level.
Showing only 27,237 mile but bidders should satisfy themselves on how
accurate this is.
