Rare right
Hand Drive: 1979 Fiat X1/9 Lido special edition project car; restoration
opportunity; showing 39,947 miles; off the road for 13
years
First registered in April 1979, this
example is powered by the 1290cc engine paired with a manual transmission. It
has had 5 former keepers and has been in the current ownership since August
2010. The vehicle is being offered in scrap/project condition and should be
treated as a non-runner, as it has not been attempted to start and is missing a
battery, although it may potentially run once one is fitted.
The Lido edition is one of the more distinctive and desirable
variants of the X1/9 range, named after the famous Parisian cabaret and
burlesque show, giving it an added sense of glamour to an already stylish
mid-engine design. This special edition is particularly notable for its unique
specification, including metallic black paintwork, white Alcantara upholstery,
silver pinstriping, chrome-accented bumpers and individually numbered badging.
It is understood that only around 700 of these Lido editions were ever produced,
making them a rare sight today.
Due to the
well-known susceptibility of the model to corrosion, very few examples are
believed to remain on the road, further enhancing its appeal as a restoration
prospect. This car is offered with a large history file, which will be of
interest to anyone looking to return it to its former glory or preserve it as a
piece of period Italian design.
A rare
opportunity to acquire a highly collectible and increasingly scarce special
edition X1/9, ideal for a restoration project or long-term investment in a
classic that is becoming harder to find in any condition.
