Supercharged Tritec 1.6-litre engine; showing only 94,234
miles; limited-slip differential; one of the final
examples of the much-admired R53
generation
Presented in Pepper White with contrasting
black roof and mirror caps, this 2005 Mini Cooper S represents one of the final
examples of the much-admired R53 generation,
distinguished by its Teflon-coated Eaton supercharger and
limited-slip differential — features that have helped cement
the R53’s reputation among enthusiasts as
the most characterful of the modern Cooper S models.
Introduced in 2002, the R53 Cooper S
was the first performance MINI of the BMW era and quickly established itself as
a modern classic. Powered by the supercharged Tritec 1.6-litre engine, it delivered a
distinctive whine, sharp throttle response and a level of driver engagement that
later turbocharged models never quite replicated. Built at Plant Oxford, the R53
combined retro styling with genuinely entertaining handling, and has since
become the purist’s choice within the early
new-MINI lineup, with late-production cars such as this 2005
example particularly sought after.
This example is accompanied by plenty of
service history and has benefitted from significant recent expenditure,
including a new clutch and single-mass flywheel conversion, along with
numerous other new parts fitted in recent months. A 15% supercharger pulley has
also been installed, offering a modest and well-regarded performance uplift while
retaining the car’s usability. The MOT is valid until
March 2027.
A
well-specified, late-production R53 with desirable
mechanical features, sensible upgrades and strong recent maintenance
— an appealing prospect for MINI
enthusiasts and collectors alike.
