M54
straight-six 2,494cc petrol
engine with the sought-after 5-speed
manual gearbox; V5C records only three former keepers; much cared for enthusiast
owned example
First registered in 2001, this BMW 525i Sport
represents one of the most desirable configurations of the E39 generation,
combining the smooth and characterful 2,494cc straight-six petrol engine with the
sought-after 5-speed manual gearbox. Finished in
Titan Silver with Black Dakar leather, it presents a timeless and understated
specification that suits the model well. The odometer currently shows 126,617
miles, a sensible figure for an M54-powered car.
The car has been in the hands of a
very fastidious owner since 2020, during which time it has benefited from a
notably high level of maintenance. In recent years it has received new brake
discs and pads all round, a new radiator and coolant change, an Inspection II
service, auxiliary belts, a new battery, thermostat replacement, and repairs to
both the instrument cluster and ABS module.
More recently, in 2025, it
was treated to two new rear tyres, a full wheel alignment, a new clutch, an oil
service and microfilter, LCM replacement, a rear top arm, front drop link, and
professional repairs to both sills to address corrosion. This steady program of
upkeep is supported by a very thorough service history, and the V5C records only
three former keepers, suggesting unusually stable long-term ownership.
The devil is in the detail, as
pictured you can see the tools are in the boot, the glovebox torch is present
and working, the car comes with two keys and the bonus of a Westfalia removable
towbar.
The Sport specification brings firmer
suspension, upgraded trim and a more purposeful stance, making the manual 525i
something of a sweet spot in the range for those who value an engaging drive
without sacrificing refinement. Increasingly recognised as one of BMW’s finest
saloons, the E39 continues to gain appreciation among enthusiasts for its
balance, build quality and understated character.
