Honda’s long-running MT series; an unmolested
MT5; two-stroke moped; showing just 2,163
miles
Introduced as part of Honda’s long-running MT series, the MT50 offered
the looks and stance of a full-size trail bike while remaining
within the 50cc moped class, making it a popular choice for learners in the late
1980s and 1990s. Simple, tough and easy to live with, these little
two-strokes earned a loyal following,
and surviving low-mileage examples have become
increasingly scarce as most were ridden hard in their youth.
This 2002 machine is a pleasingly
original example, showing just 2,163 miles from new and recorded on the current
V5C as having had only three former keepers. Importantly, it is correctly
registered as a 50cc moped, which will matter to collectors and anyone seeking a
lightweight, learner-friendly
classic.
Presented in tidy, honest condition, it retains
the look and feel of an unmolested MT5, with no obvious signs of the usual
teenage “improvements” that so many suffered. With such low mileage it appears
to have led a far gentler life than most of its
contemporaries.
A charming little survivor from the
tail-end of the two-stroke moped era, offered with its
V5C and showing mileage that would be hard to repeat today. Ideal for collectors
of small-capacity Hondas or anyone wanting a
nostalgic, lightweight runabout.
