Uber rare and collectable
four-wheeled BMW Isetta 600 Limousine; two-tone Orange and White paintwork;
showing only 64,976 kilometers; The ultimate bubble car?
A charming
and highly unusual microcar, this rare BMW Isetta 600 Limousine represents a
fascinating transitional model in BMW’s post-war recovery story. The 600 was a
significant step forward from the earlier BMW Isetta, offering genuine four-seat
accommodation and improved practicality while retaining the marque’s
unmistakable character.
Powered by a rear-mounted 582cc flat-twin engine
derived from BMW’s motorcycle range, the 600 delivered modest but spirited
performance for its class, paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. Notably, it
combined the iconic front-opening door with a conventional side door for rear
passengers, making it far more versatile than its predecessor. Unlike the
standard Isetta, the 600 also benefits from the inclusion of a conventional
reverse gear, a particularly useful feature that enhances its usability in
modern conditions.
Finished in eye-catching two-tone white and orange
paintwork, the car presents with period charm befitting its distinctive design,
the cheerful colour scheme perfectly complementing its playful microcar
proportions.
Produced for just two years, the 600 Limousine remains one
of BMW’s rarest production models and an important stepping stone toward the
later BMW 700, which would help secure the future of BMW.
This particular
example is believed to have spent much of its working life in Finland, reputedly
in service with the national postal system—an appealing and unusual chapter in
its history that speaks to the model’s practicality and robustness. Imported to
the UK circa 2023, it is a rarely seen survivor that offers both historical
interest and considerable charm.
The car has been starting readily and
driving well around site for the purposes of photography and video, backed up by
an invoice for service work soon after the car was imported.
Seldom
encountered today, this Isetta 600 offers a rare chance to acquire one of the
most characterful and conversation-starting microcars of the post-war era—an
irresistibly quirky addition to any collection and a guaranteed crowd-pleaser
wherever it goes.
