76 years in the Arizona sun; fantastic sun
burn patina; straight six engine
The 1940 Chevrolet pickup was a durable pre-war
model that featured a streamlined, all-steel cab design and represented the
final model year before the war-related production shifts.
The engine is a 216.5 cubic-inch
inline-six cast-iron unit that produced 78 horsepower and equipped with a
three-speed manual transmission, featuring a distinctive rounded grille and a
tilting windshield for ventilation. A half-ton pickup with a 113-inch wheelbase
and a 78-inch bed.
This 1940 Chevrolet 12PU Pick-up was imported
from Arizona and first registered in the UK in May 2016 after spending the first
76 years of its life in the slow-burning copper
sun.
Now
assigned the dateless number plate YWG 176, the current V5C does not have any
“non transferable” markings and is showing only four previous
keepers.
Last on
the road until 2018 when the previous owner started work on the braking system
which included new shoes all round, brake pipes and the relocation of the fuel
tank to the rear of the bed. The chassis was then painted, but sadly at this
point the recommissioning stalled due to the ill health of the
owner.
In 2023
the current owner purchased the pick-up with the intention to carry out minimal
restoration to preserve the original patina look. Since ownership he has
replaced the wooden floor with a steel replacement and other mild
upgrades.
Sadly,
due to other projects and busy work commitments, he has been unable to finish it
and has made the tough decision to find a new home for the
project.
The
3100cc straight six engine was running last year with an auxiliary fuel supply
and battery. A selection of parts are included, located in the bed, including a
lowered front axle with disc brake conversion.
Looking in fantastic condition considering its
86 years, it is probably one of the most solid around, a rare chance to own a
super cool patina classic.
