The 1951 MG TD is a beloved British 2-door
roadster produced by Morris Garages that helped define post-war
sports car culture—especially in the United States. It inspired a wave of
imports and helped establish MG’s reputation across the
Atlantic.
Light and nimble, thanks to
its independent front suspension and rack-and-pinion steering—cutting-edge for
its time, with drivers loving the tactile feedback and the “connected” feel of
the road.
The XPAG engine delivered a
satisfying growl, adding to its sporty charm, featuring the 1,250 cc XPAG
inline-4 engine producing around 54 bhp and 64 ft-lbs of torque driving a
4-speed manual gearbox.
This example we see here was
first UK registered in 1989 but declared as used overseas previously, declared
manufactured in 1951. The current V5C shows two former
keepers.
The paperwork includes 12 old
MOT certificates, workshop manual and a previous purchase invoice dated 1997 and
an invoice for the conversion parts for the vehicle to run on unleaded petrol
dated 2001, the paperwork indicates that
the car was restored, with the engine rebuilt in 1975. Then put into storage
until 1982.
Featured in the 1983 film “The Prodigal” featuring Hope Lang
and Joey Travolta, a CD disc is included.
