Description
Rare SS1 variant with the 135bhp Nissan 1800Ti engine; one
of only 300 made; factory hard top; surprisingly quick car for its era; driven
80 miles to the sale; be different!
Introduced in 1984, the Michelotti-styled Scimitar SS1 was powered by
various Ford CVH inline-four engines, with the 1.6L version delivering 95bhp. In
1986 the SS1 received a performance boost with the introduction of the 1.8L
turbocharged Nissan CA18ET engine, known as the 1800Ti. This engine produced
135bhp, enabling the SS1 to sprint to 60mph in 6.8 seconds on its way
to a top speed of 125mph.?
With light weight and turbo torque, the 1800Ti is surprisingly quick
for its era. It feels nimble and responsive, and while the interior is basic it
delivers a raw and engaging drive, giving a glorious turbo lag boost style of
performance.
This car, we are told by the owner,
is one of only 300 that benefited from the more powerful 1.8Ti Nissan engine and
one of only 1,507 SS1’s made between 1984 and 1995.
Although this car
has a few niggles with the headlamps and electric windows and paintwork, it was
driven to us from Cardiff, a massive grin plastered across our
vendor's face as he clambered out on arrival at Brightwells. It has an
MOT until August 2025 with just a couple of minor
advisories.
The car comes with the rare hardtop
option (which in our opinion would look better in body colour or black), the
soft top and frame also comes with the car giving you a choice dependent on
your driving needs, also a large amount of receipts show some of the work
carried out over the years and MOTs dating back to 1989 gives a little bit
more history for this rare car.
