Description
Top spec GSE
model with Getrag 5-speed manual and LSD; three owners; 80,333 miles; time warp
interior; one of only around 14 in the UK; driven 100 miles to the
sale
Launched in 1978
and remaining in production until 1993, the Monza was the flagship of the Opel
range and was a fastback coupe version of the Vauxhall/Opel Senator saloon.
Well-built and spacious, it was powered by a 3-litre straight-six engine that
developed 178bhp and made it the fastest Opel to date, capable of 134mph and
0-60 in 9.5 seconds.
First registered in January
1985, this Monza is the top spec GSE model which had Recaro sports seats,
digital LCD instruments, sports suspension, Getrag 5-speed manual gearbox
(rather than the standard 4-speed), limited slip diff plus a boot spoiler.
It has covered 80,333 miles in the hands of just
three owners, our vendor acquiring the car in 2018. The history folder shows
some useful recent expenditure including a full ignition system overhaul
including new spark plugs, distributor and ignition leads in January 2021. There
are also invoices for new brake discs and pads in March 2020 plus a wheel
bearing. Most recently the rear calipers were refurbished in January 2022 by
Brake Caliper Solutions Ltd.
There are many older
invoices for upkeep plus the original handbooks and service book with 6 stamps.
A Haynes manual is also present along with 19 old MOTs. The current MOT runs
until 29th May and it will be MOT-exempt from now on thanks to the
rolling 40-year rule.
Looking to be in good
shape for its age with a particularly well-preserved grey velour interior, this
handsome Monza was driven 100 miles to the sale and has been starting promptly
and running well as we have moved it around on site.
According to howmanyleft, only 34 Monza GSEs are still licensed in
the UK, just 14 with the manual gearbox, so it could be a long time before you
see another for sale. With some minor attention to the bodywork, this GSE could
be up there with the best of them.
