There is lots of lovely history with
this Pre-Series Morris Eight Saloon which was first registered FK 6396 in
Worcestershire on 1st December 1934 - the number it carries to this day
which remains transferable if you are into that sort of thing.
It
lived a busy life pre-war, earning its keep as a rental car - being hired out to
the British Railway Traffic and Electric Co at £2 10s a month from March to
November 1939 - a nice little earner. One would have thought they could have
used the train!
In 1946, Pitts Garage of Gloucester charged £30 to fit a
reconditioned engine and new clutch, the car remaining in the same owner's hands
until at least the mid 1950s according to the buff logbook on file. This also
includes old tax discs from 1954 and 1956 showing it was still living in
Gloucester at this time. There are also some petrol coupons from February 1948
and an original Operation Manual.
It surfaced in Stroud in 1996 by which
time it was in a dilapidated state. It was restored most beautifully over
the next year or so with photos on file (dated) showing progress which was swift
and nicely executed. The end result has aged gracefully over the ensuing years,
yet still remains in super condition.
It passed to a new owner in
2001, the car changing hands once more before our vendor acquired it on a whim,
his father having owned one as the family car back in the day. An inveterate car
restorer, he has been right through it, fitting new rear cylinders and master
cylinder as well as a new fuel tank.
An impressive starter, it has been
running and driving nicely on site, has a lovely interior and very good
paintwork. Ready to go, this little Morris is as nice as they come and would
make an ideal summer run-around.
