Description
Driven 30 miles to the sale; reconditioned gearbox; coming from a
28-year ownership where it was kept garaged and cherished
One of the
best-loved Morris Minor variants, the Traveller 'woody' was introduced in 1953.
Equipped with the same independent torsion bar front suspension and
rack-and-pinion steering as its saloon sibling, it proved just as enjoyable to
drive. With foldable rear seats and a spacious load area, it still makes a
remarkably practical classic that is just as happy carrying hay bales and logs
as it is children and wet dogs.
First registered in April 1966, this
handsome chap is showing some 68,476 miles and has benefitted from a trip to
Jones & Alcock in Wolverhampton where some good work was undertaken. This
includes a reconditioned gearbox, lead-free head conversion, new clutch, new
radiator, and a full service.
Previous MOTs were undertaken up until 2017
showing just a couple hundred miles were racked up each year, the five MOTs that
were carried out between 2009 and 2017 show no advisories, the last of which was
carried out in June 2017 when the odometer was showing 68,120 miles meaning just
300 miles have been covered since.
At some point in time the woodwork was
replaced to a very high standard, and it has been kept well treated to this day
and presents in excellent condition. The bodywork looks straight and the
paintwork also looks very good, overall the car is in lovely useable condition
and would hold its own at any classic car show.
The red vinyl interior
has mellowed nicely, the front seats showing very minor wear and the rear seats
looking as though they have never been sat in. The door cards are wonderful as
is the roof lining and carpet, the dash is scratch-free and shows off the best
of this period styling; its still a lovely place to be.
Under the bonnet
we find the trusty 1,098cc A-series engine propelling this Traveller
through its reconditioned 4-speed gearbox to the rear wheels. This A-series
starts on the button and runs silky smooth, the gearbox too after its
reconditioning works is lovely.
As good as they come, this very
smart Traveller has been in the current ownership for 28 years, was driven 30
miles to the sale and comes with its original handbooks and service
books.
