Description
From a
deceased estate; restored and repainted in 2015 and lightly used since;
electronic ignition; stainless steel exhaust; a tidy old Rover in search of a
new owner
First registered in March 1969,
this Rover P5B comes with a DVLA history print-out which shows that it was first
owned by a Mrs S Whitehead of Crowborough, staying in her family until 1990. It
then had two further keepers until 1997 when the previous owner acquired the
car, a gentleman in Leatherhead, Surrey.
Correspondence on file states that he used it for about 5 years
before putting it into storage for a dozen years. In 2015/16 he unearthed the
car and restored it, as shown by various invoices and photos on file.
The bodywork received new inner and outer
sills, new D posts and door bottoms and a repaint in Silver Birch. The front and
rear seats were retrimmed in black leather and vinyl by Vamped of Kent at a cost
of £1,561. New Flint Grey carpets and underfelt were also fitted at the same
time, along with a new boot seal rubber.
The
front suspension and the steering box were rebuilt, along with new front brake
discs, brake lines, fuel hoses, high volume oil pump and various service items.
Electronic ignition and a stainless steel back box have also been fitted.
Our vendor acquired the car in 2020
and brought it back from Surrey to Pembrokeshire. Shortly after this he
became unwell and sadly passed away, hence the car’s appearance in this sale.
Ten old MOTs indicate that the car was showing
56,308 miles in 1997, the odometer now showing 68,503 miles. The last MOT
expired in September 2021 with just one minor advisory for a damaged track rod
end dust cover which has since been rectified. Classed as a Historic Vehicle on
the V5C, it is now free to tax and MOT-exempt. An owner’s handbook and
maintenance manual are included, along with a book on the history of the Rover
P5/P5B.
As you can see in the photos, SAP 809G
looks very sound and presentable with good paintwork and she has been starting
promptly and running well as we have moved her around on site, although we did
note an oil leak from underneath. These stately old Rovers get more handsome
with every passing year and you get more smiles per mile than you
would in any Porsche or Ferrari.
