1963 Volvo 1800S Radford
Convertible
Amendment: It has come to light that this car
was registered several years prior to the first known Radford conversion.
Whether it was taken to Radford at a later date, or converted 'in the style of
Radford' we cannot say. Bidders will need to make their own mind
up.
Stalled project; very sound basis for a rare and interesting
coachbuilt Volvo
Perhaps best known for their Radford Countryman
conversions of post-war Bentleys, or their iconic Mini De-Ville made famous by
the London set in the '60s, Radford became a household name offering its
customers bespoke alterations.
Volvos were given the convertible
treatment, their pretty 1800S Radford Convertible selling in small yet
meaningful numbers.
This example is offered exactly as you see in
the photos, having been rescued from the jaws of the scrapman just a few weeks
ago - hard to believe such things still happen.
The good news is that it
comes with a current V5C which lists it as an 1800S Convertible and a Historic
Vehicle, the not so good news is that it has been partially stripped for
restoration and the bits removed have all disappeared, so what you see in the
pictures is what you get. Its last MOT expired in 2010.
It looks like
someone has started restoration and partially stripped the car. It is
surprisingly solid, and although it will need some work to the bodyshell, it is
certainly not a major undertaking.
