Description
1978 MGB Roadster
No Reserve
In single
family ownership since 1982; only 59,500 miles from new; recently recommissioned
after many years in storage
This MGB Roadster was
supplied new by Archers of Shirley in March 1978 and was Endrust treated before
the first owner took delivery. In 1982, when it had covered c.18,000 miles, it
was acquired by a Walsall gentleman (the third owner) who was to keep it until
2013, ownership then transferring to his daughter in whose name it remains to
this day.
Correspondence on file states that the car was always kept in a
heated garage from 1982 onwards and was not used at all from 1996 – 2013. It was
then recommissioned by the Welsh MG Centre of Wrexham, as shown by invoices on
file, flying through its MOT in April 2013 with no advisories recorded, the
mileage at this point being 59,461. It was then used briefly before being put
back into storage.
Other invoices show that
in August this year it was recommissioned again, including a brake overhaul with
new front calipers, rear wheel cylinders, clutch slave cylinder etc.
Additional documentation includes all the original handbooks in the original
wallet and four old MOTs from 1981, 1986, 1996 and 2013 which substantiate the
current mileage of 59,565.
As you can see in the
photos, the car remains commendably solid thanks to the initial
rust-proofing and decades of light use and careful storage. It even retains the
original spare key fixed to the bulkhead.
Starting promptly and
running well as we have moved it around on site, with good 50psi oil pressure,
this well-preserved, low-mileage MGB doubtless has another 40+ years of useful
life ahead of it.
