1964 Triumph TR4
Appealing example with
Surrey top that's seen some useful restorative works; considerable history file
including photos of full restoration
Dating
from April 1964, this pretty, dark blue Triumph TR4 has been the subject of
considerable, photograhic restoration over approximately four years between
2008 and 2012.
Finished in dark blue and sitting upon a set of
centre-knock wire wheels, this example features a desirable Surrey top
with removable vinyl soft-top over the central Targa section offering wind in
the hair motoring with the reduced wind noise and added security offered by the
semi-enclosed canopy.
Inside, we find lovely deep red carpets and black vinyl seats piped
red with 3-point safety belts fitted, burgundy door cards, rear seat and
lovely walnut dash combined with a wooden Motolita steering wheel that
really sets it off.
The car started and ran well as we moved it around
for these shots, the 2,138cc four-cylinder which produced 105bhp in stock form
(easily upgradable to 200+) sounding throaty and responsive with an easy
gearchange and cosy interior.
The car presents well
although its unlikely to win any wards for its paint finish, which, several
years on from restoration, shows signs of micro-blistering around the body as
pictured and some slight panel misfit on the boot which would likely benefit
from some re-alignment.
The history
file includes a photo album with many pictures dated 2008 showing the car in
various states of undress, a restoration which was evidently taken on by
some fairly brave individuals. The V5C recorded seven former
owners to our current of two years, five old MOTs (now obviously exempt) and a
host of invoices for restoration parts totalling thousands in a box file dating
from 2008-2012.
The Experian report notes
two colour changes, from blue to red in 1998, then a return to blue in 2012
following the restoration.
Ready to be enjoyed,
the car would be great fun on a classic rally, Hill Climb or other classic event
this season, so get involved in this most usable of British Classic
Cars.
