Description
1952 Ford Anglia E494A
Well-sorted example in
lovely order; featured on front cover of Michael Allen's 'From Ford Eight to
100E'; ready to go; mountains of history
In general terms, most
foods have an E number and so it is with early post-war Fords. These come in an
equally bewildering line up. Dagenham designed, first came the E93A Prefect,
then the E04A Anglia, the E494A Anglia (as here), the E493A Prefect and the sit
up and beg 103E Popular, a version of our car marketed at the same time as the
new three box 100E and later 105E - got it????
Fortunately for the buyer
of this lovely car, it comes with a (signed) copy of the definitive work - the
'Anglia, Prefect, Popular' by Michael Allen. Its new owner will be able
to spot their car on the front cover!
Detailed records show that it
was first registered in November 1952 and was supplied by The Luton Motor
Company. They sold it to J Webdale and sons, their name showing in the buff
logbook until 1964. Webdale and Sons were 'Hardware factors, Grocers and
Sundriesmen'....
It moved to Norfolk with them and is later referenced as
coming from a farm on the Sandringham Estate prior to a restoration in the
mid-'80s when it is thought the rather fetching two-tone colour scheme was
applied. An engine rebuild followed in 1997.
When built, the car would
have had a 933cc Eight Horsepower engine, but by 2008 it was very tired and its
then owner swapped it for a Ten, the car now running an 1,172cc motor. Bills
show that this was rebored and reground and a correct reconditioned carb fitted.
At about this time, much was also spent on new seals and overhaul parts
according to the stack of invoices on file. The car in fact recieved a
comprehensive restoration at this time.
The current owner acquired it in
2016 and fitted four new Waymaster tyres. He also added brake lights and
indicators, spending much effort on making the car reliable. He reports that it
goes really well and having driven it around onsite we agree.
There
is also a handbook and garage lubrication chart.
This well
sorted Anglia is ready for its next owner to enjoy, offering quirky
motoring with reliability and enough performance to have some fun.
