1980 Land Rover Series III 109"

Reserve
Ex Ministry of Defence; used by the 5th Dragoon
Guards in the 1980s; first registered by the DVLA in 2006; fitted unleaded
cylinder head
Between 1980 and 1997, this rugged
looking Landy was recorded by the MoD as being entirely used within the UK by
the Army Air Corps, the Dragoon Guards, training at Sennybridge and then later
on at Aston Down Airfield. Until 2006, when the current registration was applied
to the vehicle, we have to assume that it was likely to be in military
storage.
A letter from the BHIHT confirmed the
date of manufacture so once the current V5C was obtained, it was also classified
as a historic vehicle so you will be pleased to hear tax will be
free.
The car obviously
stood for some time, but our vendor believes it was fitted with a new chassis
shortly after leaving the army, so apart from surface rust, this is in pretty
good order. He acquired it, c.2013, when it was fitted with an unleaded cylinder
head and almost £5,000 has been spent improving it since. This has included a
fully rebuilt gearbox by Beaumont of Halifax about 3000 miles ago (although we
have no invoice for this), a reconditioned original Zenith carburettor by Gower
of Watford was fitted last year and a new canvas tilt was bought. Quite a few
other invoices on file show regular maintenance during the last few
years.
The Landy was driven to the auction from
South Yorkshire towing a trailer (which was sold in another Brightwells auction)
and it is fitted with the 12 volt electrics so overall it seems a very useable
and useful bit of kit.
