1979 MGB GT

First owner 25 years; only 77,800 miles; engine reconditioned 27k miles ago; unleaded conversion; overdrive; large history file 

This MGB GT was bought new by Mr Preece of Bridgnorth from Charles Clark Ltd of Wolverhampton in June 1979, the original purchase invoice showing that it cost him £5,097 including a black vinyl sunshine roof (£85), mud flaps (£12.50) and underseal (£40). The car stayed in the family for the next 25 years, covering around 50,000 miles and receiving a stainless steel exhaust with a lifetime guarantee in 1992 and being converted to run on unleaded fuel in 1999.

It comes with a large history file from new, the original Passport to Service book containing 8 stamps up to 50,943 miles in 2004, with many supporting invoices which show other services not stamped in the book plus much other work. The odometer currently shows 77,840 miles which is backed up by the service records and various old MOTs.

In 2000 it had new sills and new front wings while stainless steel sill covers were also fitted in 2003. In June 2004 the engine was reconditioned by Paul Depper MG of Cannock at 51k miles. In 2008 it had further bodywork repairs and was repainted from its original Vermillion to Burnt Orange. New brake discs, fuel pump, track rod ends etc. were fitted at the same time, with other bills showing various new parts over the next few years including shock absorbers, alternator, trunnions etc.

As you can see in the photos it is in generally good order throughout and runs well with good 50psi oil pressure, although the paint finish on the lower half of the car is not as good as it could be, the stainless steel sill covers are scuffed and the sill/wing lines look a little uneven, especially on the driver's side and could doubtless be improved.
