1983 Robin Hood
Cool Caterham or Westfield
alternative with 2.0 Ford power; weather gear and throaty exhaust note included!
Lots of fun
Dating from August 1983 this Robin Hood
echoes the styling and ethos of the legendary Caterham 7 and is powered here by
a fruity sounding 1993cc 4-cylinder with carb and RamAir intake mated to manual
transmission.
Its not known if the date of registration relates to the
donor car, or the Robin Hood itself – the history file includes only the V5C
showing 12 former keepers.
The car looks cool, finished in red with black
leatherette seats piped red, conventional 3-point seatbelts and small Mountney
steering wheel with centre mounted gauges from the donor car. At some point, the
dash and interior have been wrapped in non-slip material, but be aware if you
wear shorts, it’s like sand-paper! The car comes with a hood and side panels
idea if you get caught in a shower!
Starting on the button the car feels
and sounds well, pulling away cleanly and manoeuvring with ease as we took these
shots. Brakes look to be drum on the back and single piston calliper on the
front.
The history file contains only the V5C and current MOT valid until
June 2022 with no advisories recorded at 3,017 miles with the last MOT recorded
in 2008 at which time the car had covered 2,962 miles suggesting perhaps 12
years off the road.
