1980 MGB Roadster
Only 9,300 miles from new
and in superb, original condition throughout; recent new wheels, tyres,
exhaust, battery and hood; just serviced; find another!
Now here’s something you don’t see every day: a classic
MGB that has only covered 9,300 miles in its 41 years to date.
As the Heritage Certificate confirms, it was built in June
1980 and finished in Vermilion red with silver and grey trim, a black hood,
overdrive transmission and Rostyle wheels. In July 1980 it was despatched to WH
Alexander of Belfast, but it must have sat around in the dealer network for a
while because it wasn’t finally registered until November 1983 when it was sold
to its first owner by Howard Abraham (Motors) Ltd of Lurgan.
The service book shows that H Abraham serviced it twice,
once at 980 miles in June 1984 and again at 4,122 miles in July 1987. Six old
MOTs show that by June 1991 it had covered 5,290 miles and by June 2018 7,746
miles. It had four Irish owners up to July 2020, apparently moving from one
Carcoon to another until our vendor acquired it and brought it back to
Wales.
By this time the car had barely been driven at all for
several years so it was treated to a good service, fresh engine and gearbox oil,
a new battery, new stainless steel exhaust, new soft top and a new set of
Minilite-style alloy wheels shod with new tyres. Sailing through its MOT in
March 2020 with no advisories recorded, it has only covered 125 miles since.
Still in stunning and exceptionally original condition
throughout, the only blemish we noted is a scratch in the paint on the bonnet,
as can be seen in the photos. Starting promptly and running beautifully as we
moved it around for these photos, it presents the next owner with a tricky
dilemma – stick it back in a Carcoon as an investment; or get it out on the
roads it was made for and enjoy that unique ‘brand-new-old-car’ driving
experience!
Bid vigorously now and it could be you who provides the
answer…
