Description
1993 BMW 318i S (E36)
Two-owner manual coupe that's covered just 13,882
miles from new - find another?
Supplied new by Wollaston Motors of
Northampton in September 1993 to Mr Mansell of Cromer as a 60th birthday
present to himself, he was to keep the car some 25 years until a close friend
(also residing in Cromer) took possession in February 2018.
Showing just
13,800 miles, this E36 318i S Coupe is likely one of the lowest mileage and
unmolested examples in existence. The 'i S' version, was notably pokier
than its stock 1.8-litre counterpart, developing 138bhp (against the stock
111bhp version) and 175NM of torque from its M42B18 four-cylinder engine - 6-pot
performance with 4-pot running costs in theory and driven here, through the
desirable 5-speed manual transmission.
This coupe comes with a good
standard specification including grey cloth sports seats, electric windows,
electric metal tilt and slide sunroof a £689.36 extra, electric mirrors and
Pioneer radio cassette player. Externally the car is finished in Calypso red
metallic (£344.68 extra) with black lower sills, single exhaust and original
15inch BMW alloy wheels. In the boot we find the original spare, complete tool
kit and a likely out of date but intact first aid kit.
Although the car
has covered just 13,882 miles and is very good indeed, it's still 27 years old
and has likely been stored outside at some point, so there are some marks to the
car and some trim has deteriorated both inside (driver's side door card) and at
the back of the rear side window trims (see images), but nothing that cannot be
rectified with replacement trim and some good old time and effort.
The
car starts and runs, but would evidently benefit from a thorough service and
inspection given how little mileage it has done and the amount of time stood
idle. In the history file we find the V5C, owner's pack and service book showing
whom it was supplied by as detailed, the PDI stamp by the supplying dealer
(Wollaston) and one service stamp dated July 1997 by Sycamore BMW at 7244
miles. In addition to the first service stamp, Sycamore have also stamped a
brake fluid change and body inspection at the same time.
There is
also an estimate for 1st oil service, Inspection I and II dated October
1996, supporting invoice and inspection sheet for the service mentioned above by
Sycamore in July 1997 costing £225, a replacement battery in March 2000
also by Sycamore BMW and the original purchase invoice for some £18,310. There
are 2 old MOTs on file from 2018 and 2019 and the current ticket, valid until
November 2021 with no advisories recorded. Prior to the MOT in 2018, records
show the car to have been off the road from 2012, with other periods of
inactivity before that.
With a little time and effort this 13,882 mile
E36 coupe could be a real shining light. Given the way they are starting to
move, following on from the serious price hike in 3-door E30's, this looks like
an absolute steal at the enticing estimate.
