1970 MGB Roadster
Thoroughly recommissioned
following 20+ years in dry storage; full repaint; overdrive gearbox; hard to
find in this condition
Here at Brightwells we see so many MGBs that they can
easily all blur into one but, just occasionally, one comes along that really
stands out from the crowd. Which is where this little beauty comes in – just
look at it!
What a shame that cars can’t talk because, according to
the V5C, this gorgeous Roadster had just one owner from new in June 1970 until
our vendor acquired it in 2019. At this point the car had been in dry storage
for at least two decades or more and although it was rock solid and appeared
totally original, the paint had faded and it was in need of total
recommissioning following all those years sat idle.
There are invoices on file from Moss Bristol for over
£1,200 in parts alone which excludes the cost of many other parts for which
there are no bills such as king pins, brake calipers, carpets, door cards,
chromework, exhaust system, batteries, tyres etc – not to mention all the labour
that has gone into fitting those parts and making it look this good. Basically
the whole car has been gone through with the proverbial fine-tooth comb and
every last nut and bolt replaced as required.
The finishing touch was a full repaint in the original and
oh-so-Seventies Sandglow beige which looks mighty impressive and sets the car
off to a tee. We are told that the car needed no welding whatsoever and, as you
can see in the photos, the panel gaps are exemplary, this MG being built in the
days before BL descended into chaos and its workforce became a byword for bolshy
incompetence.
Sailing through its MOT in April this year with no
advisories recorded, this highly original, freshly rejuvenated, effectively
one-owner MG is a car that anyone would be proud to be seen in.
