1972 Alfa Romeo Spider 2000 Veloce S2

Dating from 1972, this Spider features the larger 1,962cc unit that replaced the smaller 1,750cc unit of its predecessor and was subsequently renamed the 2000 Spider Veloce. Originally LHD, this Kamm tail Spider was imported to the UK in November 1989 from whence it has had six owners during which time we note a colour change from blue to red in 2009. Our vendor, a retired restoration specialist still dabbles to keep himself occupied and turns out a couple of beautiful restorations per year as a hobby and this is yet another stunner. Restored through the Covid pandemic in time for this sale, the car is basically ready bar a good bleed of the brakes and clutch – he simply ran out of time before the car needed to be with us. Starting and running beautifully for these pictures, the car was treated to a full bare metal restoration with pictures on file. It has been thoroughly rebuilt with a stack of invoices on file for everything from new fixings to a new mohair hood costing £452 alone, along with receipts for new splash panels, outer sills, wings and lower rear panels. During the rebuild, the engine was overhauled including a new head gasket, full service, new clutch slave and master cylinder, new calliper and other braking components, new suspension, mirrors, speedo cable, light lenses and a new windscreen. Showing just 36,322 miles, its impossible to say if this is genuine given there is no history prior to the restoration detailed, but who really cares when it has been fully rebuilt like this? We do have an old V5 on file in addition the photos and invoices mentioned, however the vendor is waiting for the new logbook to come back to him which will be sent to us as soon as it’s received. There is no MOT, the car is of course MOT exempt as a ’72 model and also benefits from zero road tax! Finished in sparkling Rosso red on its period correct wheels with black mohair hood and luggage rack, it looks ready to be enjoyed – just don’t forget to bleed the clutch and brakes first with some gentle bedding in of all the shiny new bits!
