1992 Vauxhall Carlton Diplomat i Automatic

Supplied new in November 1992, this is a Phase II Vauxhall Carlton, known as the Omega A in Europe and features the 148bhp 2.6 litre straight six mated to automatic transmission. Stop for a moment, and think, when did you last see one of these cars on the road? We haven’t seen one for quite some time, then Wham, Bam, Thank you Man, we have 3 Carltons in the same sale, granted two are the Lotus versions, but what a cracking retro trio. This example comes to us in high spec Diplomat guise, which included painted wing mirrors, alloy wheels, black leather interior, walnut trim, electric sunroof, air con, heated seats, on board computer and champagne metallic paint – quite the spec for a middle of the road executive saloon of the early ‘90s! The car presents well, sure there are some small cosmetic bits that could be attended to but fundamentally it’s a great usable car – ideal perhaps for a charity rally or simply to preserve with so few left on the road. Less than 500 in 2016 and most of those were the Lotus or GSI3000 versions. The history file includes an owners pack with manuals, V5C, 5 old MOTs and service booklet with PDI by the Arlington Motor Co. Ltd of Essex and a further 5 stamps plus 1 for brake fluid. The current MOT is valid until June 2021 with 4 advisories for tyre wear. Not bad considering its 28 years old and has covered a modest 151,151 miles (we’re not kidding). This one might surprise us all.
