Rare Limited Edition Sunstorm model with factory hardtop and AP Racing
brakes; only 65,600 miles with 17 services; advisory-free MOT; fitted car cover;
a pampered example of this mid-engined sportscar
Launched in
2002, the MG TF was a heavily redesigned and reengineered version of the
preceding MG F with a 20% stiffer bodyshell, more powerful K-Series engines and
conventional coil springs rather than Hydragas suspension for sharper
handling.
Featuring a mid-engine,
rear-wheel-drive layout, the TF offered an engaging, balanced driving experience
with a low centre of gravity.
In October 2003 a
Sunstorm Limited Edition model was made available with a removable body-coloured
glassfibre hardtop and uprated AP Racing brake calipers. Other features
included seats covered in black leather with Gunsmoke Alcantara inserts, leather
steering wheel, alloy gear knob, special 16” alloy wheels, body-coloured
electric door mirrors and a single-slot CD player.
Three colours were available, Raven Black, Nightfire Red, or
Starlight Silver, along with a choice of three engines from a 115bhp 1.6 to a
160bhp 1.8.
Originally it was planned that only
500 would be made but demand outstripped supply so eventually 1,072 were sold,
358 with the 115bhp engine, 612 with the 135bhp engine and 103 with the 160bhp
unit.
Supplied
new via Stour Valley Rover of Stourbridge in April 2004, this Starlight Silver
TF has the 115bhp engine mated to 5-speed manual transmission which made it good
for 0-60mph in 9.2 seconds with a top speed of 118mph and 40mpg
economy.
It has covered only 65,667 miles with an
excellent service history comprising 13 stamps in the book plus invoices for
another four services, the last in January this year at 64,289 miles which also
included a new battery (see photos for details). That equates to an average
service interval of only 3,800 miles, pretty impressive by any
standards.
Supplied with a bespoke outdoor car
cover which cost £225, it also comes with the original owner’s handbook, a
workshop manual on CD and two keys. It has an MOT until March 2027 with no
advisories recorded.
As you can see in the
photos, this sporting MG looks to be in great shape for its year/mileage with no
rust that we could see, having been waxoil treated at least twice in its life
judging by the invoices on file.
The soft top is
in equally good condition and we are told that the car drives as well as it
looks. It has certainly been starting instantly and driving very nicely as we
have moved it around on site, with that precise and nippy handling unique to
mid-engined cars.
On offer here at no reserve,
this pampered Limited Edition TF will be a great way to scoot around over the
long hot summer that is now upon us.
